In June 2016 the Institute of Rescue Engineering and Civil Protection (IRG) at the TH Cologne University of Applied Sciences has started a new research project. The three year project CIRmin (Critical Infrastructures Resilience as a minimum Supply Concept) is government – funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education (BMBF) and Research and supervised by the executing organization VDI (The Association of German Engineers).
Under the coordination of IRG, the interdisciplinary research project CIRmin will identify interdependencies between critical infrastructures in Germany. Further, guidelines for crisis management and civil protection were developed to ensure the Minimum Supply of Infrastructure Services during a blackout.
